Biometric Technology and its concern

Biometrics and The Future

 Biometric Technology

Biometric technologies generally refer to the use of technology to identify a person based on some aspect of their biology like;

  • Airport security. Iris recognition has been used in a number of large airports for several years. ...
  • Building Access. Fingerprint access for buildings is not new. ...
  • Cars. It’s estimated that over 2 million cars in the UK use biometric technology in one form or another. ...
  • Blood Banks. When it comes to giving blood; identity is pretty important. ...
  • Schools.

Advantages of biometric authentication

Changes to data protection laws, company policies, and greater risks posed by cybercriminals to information systems led to rapid advances and implementation of the technology for a variety of access control situations. With biometric solutions, governments, enterprises, and online services could safely provide access to systems with multi factor authentication that involves,Some types of biometric authentication tools available are:

  • Fingerprint scanners
  • Facial and voice recognition
  • Iris scanners
  • Hand geometry
  • These type of authentication that makes provides extra benefits for security angle and other important  aspects such as,

  1. High security and assurance – Biometric identification provides the answers to “something a person has and is” and helps verify identity
  2. User Experience – Convenient and fast
  3. Non-transferrable – Everyone has access to a unique set of biometrics
  4. Spoof-proof – Biometrics are hard to fake or steal

Disadvantages of biometric authentication

  1. Data breaches – Biometric databases can still be hacked
Businesses and governments that collect and store users’ personal data are under constant threat from hackers. Because biometric data is irreplaceable, organizations need to treat sensitive biometric data with increased security and caution
  1. cking and data – Biometric devices like facial recognition systems can limit privacy for users
As the world increases its use of biometric authentication systems like facial recognition technology and other biometric security measures, privacy of users needs to be taken into consideration. When biometrics are converted into data and stored, particularly in places or countries that have large surveillance measures, a user runs the risk of leaving a permanent digital record that can be potentially tracked by nefarious actors. In many instances, organizations and governments have used facial recognition software to track and identify people with scary accuracy that significantly inhibits privacy
  1. False positives, bias and inaccuracy – False rejects and false accepts can still occur preventing select users from accessing systems
ost common biometric authentication methods rely on partial information to authenticate a user’s identity. For example, a mobile biometric device will scan an entire fingerprint during the enrollment phase, and convert it into data. However, future biometric authentication of the fingerprint will only use parts of the prints to verify identity so it’s faster and quicker. In 2018, a research team from New York University created an Artificial Intelligence platform that was able to fraudulently crack fingerprint authentication at a success rate of 20% by matching similarities of partial prints to the full biometric data

OUR DATA SAFE OR NOT THAT IS BIG QUESTION IN FRONT OF ALL FELLOW INDIVIDUALS

OPTICAL FIBRES AND ITS USES

optical fiber and total internal reflection Optical fiber uses the optical principle of "total internal reflection"  to capture the light transmitted in   optical fiber and confine the light to the core of  the fiber. An optical fiber is comprised of a light-carrying core in the center, surrounded by a cladding that acts to traps light in the core Optical fiber communication is free from electromagnetic interference. Fiber optic fibers do not carry high voltages or current. Hence, they are safer than electrical cables. It consists of a very thin fiber of silica or glass or plastic of a high refractive index called the core. The core has a diameter of 10 μm to 100 μm, The critical angle in optics refers to  a specific angle of incidence.  Beyond this angle, the total internal reflection of light will occur. The trajectory of a ray of light will deviate from the normal path when it strikes a medium that has a lower refractive index. The effect of  total inter...
